STRANGE
DARK
MEMORY
In her debut major solo exhibition, Strange Dark Memory, Saskatoon artist Maia Stark investigates the archetype of the "double"—twins, doppelgängers, and reflections—through the lens of mythology and folklore.
Rooted in her Icelandic, Irish, and Scottish ancestry, Stark’s work reimagines European fairytales to navigate her own reality as a twin. Her art captures the inherent psychological friction of the pair: the comfort of constant companionship versus the precarious search for a singular identity.
